What is the difference between the clamp process connections according to DIN 32676 series A and series C?

Accepted Answer

Clamp process connections are available in several versions. The clamp standard DIN 32676 describes pipe connections with clamps for hygienic applications, especially in the food and pharmaceutical industries. The standard is divided into three series: A, B and C. The difference lies mainly in the pipe dimensions and the underlying standards for the pipes.

In some cases, the outer diameters of series A and series C are different from each other, in other cases they are identical. However, the inner diameters are always different due to different pipe wall thicknesses.

For example, the outer diameter of the SUH4xx is 64 mm for both sensors, but the inner diameter is 47.5 mm for series C and 50 mm for series A. In order to avoid dead spaces and offsets in the measuring pipe, which in turn lead to turbulence and inaccuracies, it is important to select the appropriate version that is compatible with the pipe standard used.

Why do the inlet and outlet pipe lengths for large nominal widths differ from those for small nominal widths?

Accepted Answer

For large nominal widths, we use pipes that are not tapered. Pipes with small nominal widths, on the other hand, are tapered and therefore do not require long inlet and outlet pipe lengths. The tapering in the measurement area helps to condition the flow profile so that turbulence can be calmed more quickly.

The surface characteristics Ra/Rz of the wetted surfaces is ≤ 0.4 µm for the SUH device series without display (weld seam excluded).
